If you have come across my blog you have found the ramblings of a web amateur. The code is not perfect nor the words but perhaps thats the privilege of being an amateur, time will tell. The content is based on pieces that I find interesting amusing or just... What you see is what you get ?

Thank you.

Climbing a Shard of Glass

My first thought with this picture was that I was revisiting the Tron film. The picture has been taken on top of the Shard, at the moment Europes tallest building at 310 meters. The gentlemen in the picture is a 'place hacker'

Copenhagen Cycle Chic

cycle chic

Some years ago I went for a days visit to Oxford. The memorable visit was not only the architecture but the bikes. They gave a sence of slowing down the rush, peace. Sadly we do not see this across in all parts of the UK, as you do in many european cities.

I have admired Robert Lindstrom's work particularly his 'Nun Pictures' and his work at Blau Gallery.

I have recently dug up from computer arts a tutorial on how to complete the nun desktop wallpaper. Wish me luck...

Brutal is the first impression of this image ? Or would you expect to see a Marvel Comics hero swoop down from the roof ?

We Tell Stories

penguin

The last book I read was Tom Clancy and Red Storm Rising and I would most probably admit this was because I had no access to TV !

Penguin have a site challenging some top authors to create new build, narratives specifically for the net.

Is this one of the first moves to the digital book ?

I started with the 21 steps.

mac bikes

New British motorcycle manufacturer, Mac Motorcycles, is gearing up to start producing a range of 500cc single cylinder bikes. Designed over the past nine months the bikes are set to use a 500cc Buell Blast single cylinder motor with a tubular steel backbone chassis. Design studio Xenophya Design and Ellis Pitt have joined together and this has led to the launch of a new British motorcycle company called ‘Mac Motorcycles’.

Nakagin Capsule Tower

Nakagin

Kisho Kurokawa’s famed Nakagin Capsule Tower is set to be demolished. A rare built example of Japanese Metabolism, a movement whose fantastic urban visions became emblems of the country’s postwar cultural resurgence, the 1972 Capsule Tower is in a decrepit state. Its residents, tired of living in squalid, cramped conditions, voted two years ago to demolish it and are now searching for a developer to replace it with a bigger, more modern tower. That the building is still standing has more to do with the current financial malaise than with an understanding of its historical worth.

Bladerunner

bladerunner

I could not decide when I saw this poster by Daniel Gray if I should reproduce or just copy the quote from the film:

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.

All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.."

Time to die.

As you can see I did both. Reading this extract I still see Rutger Hauer's performance on the roof at the end and Bladerunner as a sci-fi film as timeless.

Playboy Rebranding

playboyrebrand

This conceptual rebrand of Playboy imagines what would happen if the magazine removed all nudity and became a purely literary publication, allowing people to actually "read it for the articles".

I first saw this on FFF and then went through and read the articles on Alex Cornell's site and further reading on ISO50. The detail of how the logo was arrived at was interesting. Also the comment of 'If I want a cheeseburger then I want it to taste like to one' made me smile

Observation

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting? '..holy sh*t... what a ride

The New Museum

The New Museum

I watched an program recently on television about viral marketing, where a mobile phone company had ridden on the back of the IPhone4 antenna problem. They had searched the blogs and found people who had not been that impressed and offered them phones to trial. In the natural process they had blogged on this new phone and the message was spread. Clever ?

What The New Museum had done in New York was much more visual and involved Calvin Klein Jeans, curiosity and blogging again.

All Of You Undisturbed Cities

Rainer Maria Rilke

All of you undisturbed cities haven’t you ever longed for the Enemy? I'd like to see you besieged by him for ten endless and ground shaking years.

Until you were desperate and mad with suffering; finally in hunger you would feel his weight. He lies out side the walls like a countryside. And he knows very well how to endure longer than the one that he comes to visit.

Climb up on your roofs and look out: his camp is there and his morale doesn't falter, his numbers do not decrease; he will not grow weaker, and he sends no one into the city to threaten or promise and no one to negotiate.

He is the one who breaks down all walls, and when he works, he works in silence.
The poem was the basis or inspiration for one of Stuart Hobdays many incarnations on the web.. The first person I have found that you look at one of his sites and you can tell ' that is a Hobday'. Take a look:

'Blogs are surely the musings of the socially inept, those people you sidle away from at parties after a couple of stabs at conversation.' Not my words but that of Janet Street-Porter. Or am I blogging ?

Ben Heine

Because Christmas = Capitalism, this is just a concept to buy more, spend more...

Ben Heine is a Belgian painter, illustrator, portraitist, caricaturist and photographer. I first saw his work on miiinimal, his minimal photograph series. I presume he tipped his hat to Munch when he did this but my sentiments as well, possibly dont hate it but glad when its over.

His Flickr is something to trawl through and his blog.
